Quiet Time With God

Time with God is not a five-minute quiet time or even an hour. Time with God is a 24-hour lifestyle! Sure, there may be times in the day when we get away from our routine to pray or read or journal or sing or … whatever. But we need to worship God all the time, when we’re in school, playing basketball, going out or coming in, laughing with friends … you get the idea.

I love to spend quiet time with God, God; You are my closest friend. I share with You my innermost thoughts, And with You, I never pretend. I am always open and honest with You, For You perceive what I’m going through. You are near and ready to minister me, If I give all my burdens to You.

When I feel I’m on a merry-go-round, My world spinning out of control. You hear my cries as I call to You. Your Spirit flows and soothes my soul. You remind me You’re walking beside me, During the times I’m tossed and blown. You admonish me “walk by faith not sight,” For You’re with me ~ I’m never alone. Because I’m one of Your children, And You’re my Father whom I wish to obey. I’ll remember Your promise You give me. You won’t forsake or cast me away. When life’s problems come my way, My response will glorify You. I will be joyful and give You praise, No matter what I have to go through. After spending this quiet time with You, Just the two of us together. I can then go out and face the world, For there’s nothing “we” can’t weather.

Thank you Jesus. Amen.

God bless you all.

A Smile

I am a mother of three (ages 14, 12, 3) and have recently completed my college degree. The last class I had to take was Sociology. The teacher was absolutely inspiring with the qualities that I wish every human being had been graced with. Her last project of the term was called “Smile.”

The class was asked to go out and smile at three people and document their reaction. I am a very friendly person and always smile at everyone and say, hello anyway … so, I thought, this would be a piece of cake, literally. Soon after we were assigned the project, my husband, youngest son, and I went out to a hotel, one crisp March morning. It was just our way of sharing special play time with our son. We were standing in line, waiting to be served, when all of a sudden everyone around us began to back away, and then even my husband did. I did not move an inch … an overwhelming feeling of panic welled up inside of me as I turned to see why they had moved. As I turned around I smelled a horrible “dirty body smell” and there standing behind me were two poor homeless men. As I looked down at the short gentleman, close to me, he was “smiling”. His beautiful sky blue eyes were full of God’s Light as he searched for acceptance. He said, “Good day” as he counted the few coins he had been clutching. The second man fumbled with his hands as he stood behind his friend. I realized the second man was mentally deficient and the blue eyed gentle man was his salvation. I held my tears … as I stood there with them. The young lady at the counter asked him what they wanted. He said, “Coffee is all Miss” because that was all they could afford. To sit in the restaurant and warm up, they had to buy something, and they just wanted to be warm.

God Moves In a Mysterious Way

“For in the day of trouble HE [God] will keep me safe in HIS dwelling; HE will hide me in the shelter of HIS tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.” .

I have read that William Cowper, like many people today, suffered from times of deep melancholy and depression. One night when he was in a particularly dark mood of despair, he decided to take his life by jumping into the Thames River.

That night the city of London was blanketed with an extremely heavy fog and Mr. Cowper, searching to find the river, lost his way. Stumbling blindly through the fog he was dumbfounded when he found himself on the doorstep of his own home. Going to his room he penned the words of the beautiful hymn:

World’s Greatest Chef

WORLD’S GREATEST CHEF

I love the taste of T-bone steak,

Delicious every bite,

But there's nothing like the Word of God,

For my spiritual appetite.

The Word of God has milk and meat,

And even ice cream and cake.

Take a slice of the Bread of Life,

You could make the ole' enemy shake

A Loving Scratch

Peter was a worker with moderate income. His child had just started his school-life. It was Peter’s greatest ambition in life to own a car. He used to save some money every month for this purpose. He was granted a loan from the bank and could purchase a brand-new car.

He drove it home and proudly showed it to his wife and child as if it was his greatest achievement in life. He carefully washed away every speck of dirt on the painted surface of the car and was enjoying its beauty when he saw that his little child was scratching on the car’s painted surface using the sharp edge of a piece of rock. He was furious. He wanted to teach the child a lesson. In a rage he sprang upon the child, grabbed the stone and shouting words of curse, hit his fore-finger with the stone many times till his anger subsided.
